German Wine Institute Mourns Christian Adams

The staff of the German Wine Institute, the Deutsche Weinfonds, German Wine Academy and German Wine Information Bureaus have received the news of the tragic death of our colleague, Christian Adams, with shock, horror and grief. Adams was deputy director of the German Wine Institute in Mainz, Germany.
Adams, 37, was in the States to attend the German Wine Information Bureau’s annual Vintage Tastings. He attended the tasting in Manhattan on Monday, Sept. 10, and was headed to San Francisco for the event there. His flight, United 93, bound from Newark to San Francisco was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania, Sept. 11.
Mr. Adams joined the Institute as export director in 1989 and became deputy director in 1995. In the 1980's, he earned an enological degree from Geisenheim and a marketing degree at the University of California at Davis.
Christian Adams lived in Biebelsheim, a small suburb of Bad Kreuznach, in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz. He leaves his wife, Silke, and two children, Lukas (7) and Theresa (5).
Armin Göring, director of the German Wine Institute, expresses his deepest sympathy in the name of all his co-workers. "Christian Adams’ passion and commitment was felt by everyone with whom he came in contact. The sadness of this loss is felt by everyone in the German wine industry."
